Hi Folks! I recently got an announcement that appeared to be from fb, though it may have been a hoax. It said I needed to include a special “secure” addition to my account by July 1, and if I did not, my page would be cancelled. Hm. Well, first, I’m not sure it’s from fb. If it IS from fb, I wonder if “secure” is for MY security….or theirs. I’m thinking the latter. So.
It's not a hoax. I got the email about my account (turn on Facebook protect), and you have to set up 2-factor authentication or they will take your account down. My deadline was sometime this spring and I did turn it on. I have to get a code from a text message to enter every time I log in. I have a friend who ignored it, and she was locked out of her account. But the substack is cool too, I follow a lot of great people on this platform!
I dunno, I keep my location turned off unless I need directions, and I only log in to FB from my laptop at my home office 95% of the time so they don't have much to track for me. But a lot of sites require a code from a text message to log in, like investment accounts and the phone bill, it's supposed to be a security measure to make sure you are you. But I am old school, I don't do much of anything on my phone but talk, text, and check the weather.

Hm. ...a text every time you log in...? That sort of sounds like they're geo-tracking you.
Afterall, just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean people are NOT out to get me!!! :-)

I hear you!
