We the People of Johnson County Missouri, Tuesday, September 19,2023 🦅 Last Night's Meeting Update
Hi Folks!
Great to see everybody last night! Good times, for sure.
Senate Floor Leader Cindy O’Laughlin brought some good information about dealing with the PSC (Public Service Commission). She is not in favor the time-based billing being pushed through by Scott Rupp, Chair of the PSC, and his cohorts.
I’ll put some bullet points and screen shots of hand-outs she brought below.
This is the Organizational Chart of the OPS (Office of Public Counsel). This is a group consisting mostly of lawyers who oversee the PSC. According to Sen. O’Laughlin, this group is very liberal. She called them “Progressive”, although the liberal agendas I’ve seen are far more regressive than progressive, so I’ll just call them liberal.
The numbers you’ll notice at the bottom of each little box is the salary that person makes, that comes from our tax dollars. I doubt these jobs consist of a full 40-hour work week and would love to see data on that.
The next Organizational Chart consists of the players of the PSC. These are the actors who refused to meet with Evergy, when Evergy asked to make changes to the time-based billing plan which returned one billing option to near the current billing rate. PSC simply said, “NO. We will not meet with you, Evergy.” All the while, being paid by our tax dollars.
Note the numbers at the bottom of each small box. Again, that denotes the salary that person receives from our tax dollars.
The areas below are supervised and REGULATED by PSC. According to Sen. O’Laughlin Missouri has had one close call for using maximum energy that occurred on one of our hottest days last summer, but we’ve had NO “brown outs.” Apparently what MO PSC is moving toward is shutting down some nuclear and gas powered electric stations, hence they are forcing MO citizens into rationing energy. THAT’S HOW THEY’RE MANAGING OUR TAX MONEY.
Why shut down plants? Can you say ESG? (Environmental, Social Governance)
Yes, boys and girls…Totalitarianism/Communism is infiltrating Missouri. We must be exceptionally attentive to our 2024 election. More on that later.
We’re continuing to work with Matt Crouch of the Heritage Action Foundation to see what we may be able to do to reverse the situation or at least impede it.
Our second speaker, Shelly Harrison, further helped us understand COS (Convention of States). Shelly is an amazing student of history! Her ability to read, understand and educate on the salient points of the Constitution is amazing to witness! I’ll bullet point some of her major points below. Also, Shelley said she will send us her PowerPoint presentation, and I’ll share that with you when she emails it.
Convention of States, or COS canNOT completely rewrite our Constitution.
Under Article 5 of our current Constitution, our founding fathers allowed a provision for the STATES to make specific Amendments to our CURRENT Constitution, as agreed upon by at least 35 of our 50 states.
Currently, the 3 areas that about 24+/- (I’m not sure on the exact number) of states have agreed to amend include: decreasing the debt by fiscal responsibility, limiting the scope and power of the federal government, and term limits. Those are the ONLY 3 things the current agreeing states have agreed to.
It has taken years to get that many states to agree to those 3 items. The process is slow, and that’s for a reason. The founding fathers wanted people to think long and hard about changing the Constitution.
On the other hand, the writers of the Constitution had just freed themselves from a tyrannical government by absolute determination and years of hard-fought war filled with blood, sweat and tears, so they wanted to be CERTAIN the STATES and the PEOPLE could free themselves in such a case the government slid again into tyranny.
The Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. It took until 1787 - 11 LONG years until the war was fought, won, and the Constitution was prepared to make the United States of America a Republic. (“If you can keep it,” according to Benjamin Franklin.)
Those were my take-aways, and I’ll be sure to share Shelly’s ppt presentation when I get it.
Be SURE to put on your calendars that next month we will meet on the 3rd TUESDAY of the month, TUESDAY, October 17. The 4-H has their annual banquet on Monday night, so we’re moving to TUESDAY, JUST FOR OCTOBER.
So again, JUST FOR OCTOBER, we’ll meet on TUESDAY.
Tuesday, October 17,
Same bat-time: 7:00pm,
same bat-location: Johnson County Fairgrounds Youth Bldg.
Look forward to seeing you then!!
Thank you for sharing notes, since I was not able to attend. That vacant spot is not vacant, Parson appointed Kayla Hahn in June. https://psc.mo.gov/Commissioners/ Chairman Rupp was in the legislature as a Republican, but I question that, given his bio. "Sustainability!?"
"Chairman Rupp earned his Master of Science degree in Energy and Sustainability through the University of Denver, his MBA from Lindenwood University and his bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri. Scott is a member of the 2017 graduating class of the National Renewable Energy Labs' Executive Leadership Program, as well as a graduate of the 2016 Institute for Regulatory Law & Economics Executive Leadership Program." https://psc.mo.gov/Commissioners/Scott_T_Rupp
