That last sentence about contacting Stormy Taylor for a copy of the minutes I would ignore. The November 2023 minutes haven’t been approved by the JCRCC yet, so she won’t give them out to non-members. Until approved they aren’t public information.
So…take note of things you may want to hear about first-hand at the meeting, instead of later on or never, and head on over! The bold/italics are from me, not the official agenda.
On another topic: Trump Campaign Opportunity
Iowa is having their caucus Jan. 12 - 14, 2024. As many of you know, the Iowa caucus is a really big deal, because the candidate chosen by the Iowa Caucus often becomes President in the following Presidential election.
The Trump Campaign group will be there in full regalia, and they have requested assistance from folks in Missouri if we are up for it! This could be an awesome once-in-a-lifetime experience! (Especially if 2024 marks our last actual election, but let’s not go there.)
Anyway, if you are a huge Trump fan, this could be awesome. If not, roll on by. Travel, hotel and food would be on your own dime, and anyone going probably would learn a LOT!!!
If you’re interested in helping, let me know and I can get you in contact with the right person.
Upcoming Mock Caucus Monday, Jan. 8, 7pm at Real Life Assembly of God Church in Peculiar, MO
To avoid further confusion on this, I’ll let you know it’s being put on by the Cass County Republican Central Committee. Because the caucus process is new to me, I’m taking every opportunity I can to prepare myself for it. I’ve asked Diane Thompson if she or Brandon Phelps, Chair of the Johnson County Central Committee, will be putting on a caucus training for our community, but so far have not heard back on that. I encourage everyone out there to contact Diane or Brandon to check and share the info with the rest of us. We need training for this.
I’m working to get someone from the state GOP to come walk us through a Mock Caucus meeting for our February meeting of We the People of Johnson County Missouri on 2/19, but I don’t have that finalized yet. Stay tuned!
In case you’re wondering how we ended up with a caucus this year instead of a primary election for President, my understanding is that the state County Clerk’s Association preferred a caucus. It was less labor for their group. In addition, historically, the caucus process still decided the final verdict for each state’s Presidential candidate, but the caucuses were highly influenced by the Presidential Primary. Jay Ashcroft felt having a Primary that did not officially choose the Presidential candidate made the Primary redundant to the caucus.
However, you look at it, I’m hoping that in Missouri our next Presidential candidate will be decided by Primary. Caucus SEVERELY limits who has influence over choosing the candidate. Basically, whatever location is chosen for the caucus limits the number of people who can attend by the room-size of that venue. It also provides only ONE location for candidate selection instead of a variety of locations for casting a ballot. If the caucus location is farther than you want to drive, too bad for you. Your voice will not be heard in Presidential candidate selection.
All that being said, for 2024, Caucus is what we have to work with. MAKE THE MOST OF IT!!!!! It’s both our privilege AND our absolute duty as a citizen of Missouri.
If you feel like this post has helpful info for folks you know, share it for sure. If not, kick back and have a cup of coffee! 🍵 Or…have a cup of coffee while you share this with others via email, fb, etc!!
