We the People of Johnson Co MO - Tuesday, January 10, 2023 🎯📢 It Took a Long Time to Get a Speaker of the House, but the Concessions are Well Worth It!!!
Hi Folks!
Wow, did you think we’d EVER get a Speaker of the House elected? I sure liked the idea of having Jim Jordan, but apparently, I liked the idea better than Jim Jordan did. Alas.
I got a HUGE kick out of Matt Gaetz nominating Donald Trump! I think he and his colleagues thought out this delay carefully, stuck to their guns, had some fun along the way, almost got a fist fight going right there in the House chambers and NOW, they’ll need to hold McCarthy’s feet to the fire.
I didn’t realize all the concessions Kevin McCarthy was making to buy enough votes to finally become Speaker, but CNN has a run-through on it, as well as MOJO Wire.
According to those sources, here’s what those despicable, irresponsible, blustering, selfish childlike holdouts (those are the descriptive words from mainstream media) got from McCarthy in exchange for the Speakership:
Any member can call for a motion to vacate the speaker’s chair (This will help them hold Mr. McCarthy accountable. It’s a rule that was on the books for decades but curtailed under the Nancy Stalin Pelosi reign.)
A McCarthy-aligned super-PAC (the Congressional Leadership Fund) agreed to not spend in open Republican primaries in safe seats (Keep the money and spend where the seats are threatened.)
The House will hold votes on key conservative bills, including a balanced budget amendment, congressional term limits, and border security (Getting those things under control would be superb!)
Efforts to raise the nation’s debt ceiling must be paired with spending cuts (Now, THERE’S a thought. What a novel idea. 🙄)
Move 12 appropriations bills individually, instead of passing separate bills to fund government operations (I’m not exactly sure what that does for the People of the USA…maybe wastes less time for Representatives so they can attend to getting our freedoms back? Or stops special interest parties from having as many bills as possible to push their agenda items into. That would be good.)
More Freedom Caucus representation on committees, including the influential House Rules Committee (I like that a LOT!)
Cap discretionary spending at fiscal year 2022 levels, which would amount to lower levels for defense and domestic programs (Capping spending! What an idea!)
72 hours will be required to review bills before they come to floor (instead of the usual Nancy Pelosi, “Here’s the bill; we have to pass it to see what’s in it.” So gross.)
Give members the ability to offer more amendments on the House floor (Saves time and allows for less secrecy)
Create an investigative committee to probe the “weaponization” of the federal government (YES, YESSS, and YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! HURRAHHHHH!!!!)
Restore the Holman rule, which can be used to reduce the salary of government officials (I’m REALLY liking these concessions!!!!)
SO. I’m thinking the wait was worth it.
Rep. Mary Miller thought so, too. We can’t BOTH be wrong!

This made me chuckle as well: Matt Goetz had gotten so many concessions he was running out of things to ask for! 😁

I always hope that all’s well that ends well, right? However, this is definitely NOT the end! It gives congress and We the People more to work with, but we’ll need to do a LOT of roasting and toasting those feets to the fires. I can tell you that fer sher. BUT, tonight I’m popping the cork on some champagne and spending time telling God Thank You, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, my beautiful, WISE and Glorious King of kings.
Have an AWESOME Tuesday!
And Share the good news with at least 2 people!!
I know President Trump supports Kevin McCarthy, but I don’t understand why. Maybe it’s because these negotiations will hold Kevin’s feet to the fire and not allow him to overstep. I don’t honestly know. But I’m thankful for what was accomplished by the holdouts. It also forced the House to inaction during the voting — was that an ulterior motive? I don’t know the answer to that, either. But I have asked Mark Alford why he voted for McCarthy. We will see how long it takes for answer. Thanks for all you do, Rachel!!
