We the People of Johnson Co MO - Tuesday, September 20, 2022 π Really Good Information at Our Meeting Last Night!
Hi Folks!
π― Last night brought us some really good information!!! Brandon Phelps, Chair of the Republican Central Committee (RCC) gave us a great run-down on what the RCC does, from the township, county, state, and electoral college levels. I did NOT know the spectrum of the RCC, and all the lives they touch. From legislative to judicial to the executive branch, our Johnson County Republican Central Committee is working all the time! It makes me think of the analogy of a swimming duck. On top of the water, you see a calm, serene handsome animal steadily gliding its way across the lake. Under the surface, you see well-made paddles whipping through the undercurrent!
We learned that the Presidential Primary in Missouri is an indication of who the people want in office, but it does not decide the Presidential candidate! It is actually a Presidential PREFERENCE Primary. The Missouri caucus occurring after the Primary actually makes the final decision of the Presidential candidate for Missouri.
If you would like to know more about the RCC, Brandon truly is a wealth of knowledge! If you would be interested in being a township committee person, click on the pink link, go to their website, and note the vacancies. Currently, there are vacancies in Jefferson, Kingsville and Madison townships.
π― Sargent Bill Lowe of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop A, gave us an overview of what Hwy Patrol Officers do, do not do, and what we can do to work smoothly with them. Troop A is located in Leeβs Summit at Hwy 50 and MO 291. Troop A is one of the original six troops estalished in 1931. Its headquarters was first located in Kansas City, but in 1938 ws moved to Leeβs Summit. There are 135 uniformed officers, 111 uniformed civilians, and 12 civilian employees assigned to this troop. Troop A serves the following counties: Bates, Benton, Carroll, Cass, Clay, Henry, Jackson, Johnson, Lafayette, Pettis, Platte, Ray and Saline.
Sgt. Lowe said the first thing to know about working with Ladies and Gentlemen of the State Highway Patrol is to keep your hands in sight and donβt make quick movements. Troopers are trained to react quickly and aggressively to movements that appear threatening. They are truly Ladies and Gentlemen who respect you and expect respect in return. If an officer questions you, it is to better understand who you are and what youβre doing to provide safety on the road for you and other citizens.
In response to questions, we learned that Sgt. Lowe polishes his own immaculate boots, and it took him a significant period of time to learn to do it correctly! π We also learned that in the state of Missouri, Hwy Patrol Troopers would not confiscate weapons, should a federal law overrule the Second Amendment of the Constitution.
Thanks to everybody last night for either speaking or attending! It was a good time of learning more about our politics and law-keepers.
If you missed last nightβ¦.where were you?! π² Come join us next month, October 17, 7:00pm, at the Johnson County Fairgrounds!
We had several first-time attendees last night who said they just NOW heard of We the People of Johnson Co MO, and would have come earlier if theyβd known of us.
Do your friends and neighbors a favor; hit the share button below and send this email to them. Eight or ten of them. Or more!! I think only about 5% of our county know we exist!
